Mississippi Watershed Convocation

The Mississippi Watershed Convocation is a self-commissioned network created to honor and repair the relationships between the human, elemental and spiritual ecologies of the Mississippi River Watershed.

the mississippi riverOur work relies on changing perception and thus changing reality. The reason that we choose to do this work is that we are dependent upon and interdependent with a river that is dying and taking out a large swath of ocean life with it. We reclaim our right to use our spiritual and magical heritage as well as the appropriate technologies and community building skills we have inherited through our many struggles. We acknowledge that we are a free, loving and powerful people. Our intention is simple: to heal the river, reconnect ourselves to her and to one another. This first step is to change the molecular structure of a small quantity of river water already gathered. In October of 2007 we ritually gathered water from the river in New Orleans and prepared a ceremony that was performed as part of the VooDoo Fest Music Experience. That water is transformed.

Now we send it out to tributaries and headwaters where our friends will take charge of it, create their own ritual and together we will pour it into the river like a homeopathic solution and begin a 90-day cycle of prayer as the water travels back to New Orleans and on to the Gulf of Mexico. As part of this process, our river community will be linked by the rivers themselves and through the virtual watershed of the Internet. Activists and organizers already at work on saving the river will find a comfortable delta of river lovers to lend community and spirit to the work.

We are in need of Allies! Help us get the word out. The work of creating community is joyful. We envision festivals, river tours, storytelling and hands-on-healing. If you live, work, play or dream along these rivers — Join The Mississippi River Convocation.
